A feature I wrote about Tuba City High School’s Billy Orman was posted recently to Arizona Track.
Billy was the 2009 3A Cross Country State Champion , and is the favorite to repeat as state champion in a few months.
Billy also has official college recruiting visits to Harvard and Columbia scheduled on September 18 and 25, respectively. Wow!
Anyway, I hope that you’ll read this article and give me your feedback in the comments section, or by e-mail. This one was definitely a great learning experience for me.
Another article down, many more to go!
My article about sophomore Sarah Fakler of Xavier College Preparatory is now available for your reading pleasure on Arizona Track.
As just a young freshman, Sarah was runner up at the 2009 5A Division I Cross Country State Championship and is the favorite to win the 2010 AIA Arizona State Cross Country Championship.
I had so much fun interviewing Sarah, and I’m looking forward to following her progress throughout the season!

Check out my latest article about Coach Brian Dempsey from Sandra Day O’Connor High School on ArizonaTrack.com.
Lessons from the Geese, team updates for the 2010 cross country season and background. Enjoy!
Another article I wrote went up tonight on Arizona Track.
It’s about the Arizona Track and Cross Country Coaches Association’s new President, Bruce Wilkison. Wilkison is the Strings teacher and cross country/track and field coach at Gilbert Christian School.
The ATCCCA provides a means for coaches to meet and communicate, organize, administer and promote the two sports in conjunction with the AIA, and disseminates information regarding competitions and their results. Brian Dempsey from Sandra Day O’Connor High School was the ATCCCA’s previous president.
You can learn more about Bruce and his plan of action for his ATCCCA presidency here.
Well hello, Internets! Long time, no update.
So, what’s up in my world? I’m still on the job hunt with two more interviews since the last time I updated in June (ouch!). I’m not giving up. But in the meantime, I’ve been given an exciting opportunity with Arizona Track to join their team as a Volunteer Staff Writer – Yes folks, this means that I’m still looking for a job. So if anyone hears of anything, please get in contact with me!
For those of you who don’t know what Arizona Track is: It’s a non-profit dedicated solely to supporting high school track and field and cross country in the state of Arizona. Arizona Track’s activities include Arizona Track & Field news, meet schedules, and meet results, annual rankings, and multimedia services.
My Dad, Joseph Berg, took over Arizona Track in 2004, which was my junior year of high school. He does so much, and I can’t thank him enough for everything he does – For the sport in Arizona, all the hours he spends updating results and editing photos, and let’s not forget everything he has done and continues to do for my family and I. THANK YOU, POPS!
Kids, if you see him at a meet shooting photos or handing out the annual Arizona Track Scholarship at your state meet…TELL HIM THANK YOU! It can be a rather thankless position.
Throughout the year, I’ll be covering the sport, so look for me at a meet near you! This will be a great experience for me. Believe it or not, I haven’t done much sports writing.
But more importantly, this is a great way for me to give back to the community that gave SO much to me during my high school years: Fostered a love for throwing, and an opportunity to continue in college.
I’ve got eight assignments this week. It’s been a blast. My first article was published today about Saguaro High School’s Cross Country Coach, John Prather. Be sure to check back on Arizona Track this week to see the others!
It’s been a busy week for me. And I have a follow-up interview today.
A recruiter from a company called Yodle found my resume via Monster.com this week and contacted me about an Interactive Marketing Assistant position out of their Scottsdale office.
For those who don’t know, Yodle is a New York based company that works with local businesses, medical and other small businesses to provide online advertising services.
Ask yourself, when was the last time you opened up a phonebook to find let’s say, a hairdresser? Yeah, that’s what I thought too. People are using traditional media sources less, and turning to the Internet more to find services. Yodle is the leader in turning those online clicks into calls for businesses.
At any rate—when I get home, I’ll be posting a blog about what the interview process has been like this week for all the job seeking college grads out there.
Break a leg!
